Bandung spirit conference was unforgettable moment which gave me deeper insight about the peace, equality, and solidarity itself. Before I went to the conference, my friends hope that this conference will help me and peace for the world. Indeed, this was one generous step for better understanding of West and South, bringing the solidarity and equality among of us.
It is still an honor for us to be the presenter in Bandung Conference and Beyond International Conference in 8-9 April 2015. The event is important milestone to our academic career that we will proudly say to our colleagues. It was fascinating to met new people from around the world, listened essential general lectures in plenary sessions, had conversation with International Relations scholars around the world, presented our paper, and mostly, receive essential feedback and insight to our paper. We would like to express our sincerely thanks for all of the conference committee for the hard work, patience, and hospitality.
Bandung Conference and Beyond is an amazing event, big and inspiring. Many people from various country meet and gathered here exchanging their ideas, experience and knowledge about Bandung Spirit and International Relations. We could talk about what we wanted to say about Bandung Spirit and Bandung Conference and what are still relevant to the contemporary world.
This conference makes me think about how wonderful and fascinating the Bandung Spirit is, that it can inspire people to make changes, to be free and independent. This conference shown that Bandung Spirit is not at its end, it still alive and have the influence all over the world, not only for Asian and African people and countries.
Bandung Conference and Beyond is an effort, an insight to a broader view of international relations. Whether it is a theoretical, practical, or even philosophical issues. Just like the Bandung Conference, personally, this conference has given me an insight to a different method for doing a research, seen how it works in action, also see how audience responds. It was amazing to see how particular view of a problem can be solved in a different manner just by altering perspectives. I hope that in the future, we can use 'South' perspectives to solve various kind of particular problem in their nature inclusively.
Among few of many moments that I treasured are the moments talking with Mr. Acharya, Mr. Dunne, and Mr. Briggs. They have very broad and visionary view for an academic. Have a thoughtful principle, but open to critics and able to free their minds. Maybe that's I would like to learn from them the most. The others are the other panelists, I would like to thank them for giving me the opportunity to see how the research is done in the 'Southern' part of the world. They gave me various kind of insight, theoretical debates, even deep philosophical thoughts. A conference like this should be held every now and then, and documented well enough to preserve the knowledge sharing activity.
The Asian and African countries still face development dilemma. In the globalization era, they can't hinder from globalization including adopting The Washington consensus policy. In some cases, this policy has not fitted for the Asian and African country. The declining role of the state in the development strategy has affected on distribution of wealth and social impact. Liberalization that's not followed by the readiness of the institutions and society causes many peoples thrown to the poverty. The unfair international system contributes to this condition. The international institutions play significant role to support the Asian and African countries struggle.
The Bandung Conference and Beyond was not only a gathering forum for the academicians and practitioners but this conference provide new framework to understand contemporary international relations phenomenon in Asia Africa. This forum brought an understanding of the significancy of the collective identity for Asian African countries struggle in international fora. The succesfull struggle of the thirld world in purposing New International Economic Order in 1970s was not accompany by the successful of the implementations. The impact of the lack of collective identity caused lack of solidarity of the third world in international fora. So that why, the commemorate of the 60 years of KAA becomes the momentum for Asian and African countries to generate spirit of solidarity and commitment to make new international economic order come to reality.
"Bandung Conference and Beyond" brought a glimpse of Asia Africa Conference sixty years ago in contemporary spirit. By such notable speakers, coordinated committee and fellow participants, the Conference also brought the spirit of friendship and solidarity with new perspectives and also new acquaintance. Bravo!
Thank you so much for such a wonderful facilitation of the Beyond Bandung Conference, and congratulations for all of the committee who manage the conference successfully.
The Beyond Bandung Conference presented very relevant topic which revitalize Bandung spirit of 1955 in the contemporary global dynamics. We could see the rise of the South countries as a reincarnation of the Bandung spirit, along with shifting global political economic epicenter in favor of the South's side.
Moreover, professional conference management handled by the Institute of International Studies of Universitas Gadjah Mada, made ideas spread across the conference was eloquently articulated. It was wonderful to learn directly from very senior scholars and professionals who share their expertise during seminars beside the conference. Indeed, it was also very enjoyable to share research topics and to initiate further collaboration with scholars from various nations.
Once again, let us express our appreciation to all of the committee, and thank you so much for your kind assistance.
I think Bandung Conference and Beyond last time was a good moment for early brain storming for exploring further research about alternative perspectives and its implementation. Therefore, rethinking historical event of Bandung Conference (1955) is significant to develop our perspectives and our countries destination, especially for Indonesia. The perspectives and destinations are needed because we have different and similar values and interests with developed countries that is important to be shared and understood. Moreover, I experienced that this conference had become an arena to share knowledge, understanding and self-reflection on how far post-colonial countries understand themselves and what they want to achieve in globalized world today?
I considered that this conference should not be trapped on historical nostalgia, but it should be contextualized the spirit of Bandung conference (1955) into very different world politics today. Hopefully, the conference in Yogyakarta will strongly contribute to the60th Commemoration of the Asian-African which will take place from 19th to 24rdApril 2015 both in Jakarta and Bandung.
This two-day conference has been very memorable for us. The speakers invited have given us priceless lessons and firm reminder about the significance and relevance of Bandung Conference in today's world. We were delighted and thankful for the opportunity to take part in the comemmoration of Bandung Conference. Through this conference, we hope that the ideas generated from the academicians, speakers and fellow participants atending the conference can be used as the recommendation for the concerning governments and other related parties to signify and reignite the Bandung spirit in international relations.
First of all, having Mr. Amitav Acharya opening the Bandung Conference and Beyond was tremendously excellent. He should admitted his best appreciation from the committee because I believe people will not merely understand what Bandung Conference is without his remarkable speech. The thing is I was really excited when he said that all of the pictures presented on his slide was collected in a certain time, and certain place. Therefore, I think this event had been organized well and precisely. My last words should be the infinite gratitude to the entire committee for organizing such tremendous event.
Thank you for your appreciation and I hope this event will have its continuity to promote the spirit of Bandung Conference.
The Bandung Conference and Beyond has sent a clear message: welfare and independence are the rights of developing countries. I would like to congratulate the committee of the Conference in UGM for the successful implementation. Without your hard and creative work, the conference will be another "ordinary" conference. The speakers for the conference are highly reputable. The presenters are coming from various parts of the world. I really enjoyed the critical academic global environment during and after the conference. Thank you guys!
Bandung Conference and Beyond was the first international conference I have ever attended, and my expectations about this event did not fail me. In only two days during this conference, I have learned so much about what actually happened in 1955, and what Bandung Conference had contributed to the world up to this day. This conference gave me the chance to meet the superb speakers, excellent scholars, and last but not least, friendly organizing committees. Fantastic!
This conference gives our group opportunity to re-think our focus studies (global trade diplomacy) from the different perspective. Our paper presented in this conference was about the relevance of Bandung Spirit in the contemporary global trade order. By involving in the commemoration of Bandung Conference, we started to include the ideas of Bandung Spirit into our way of thinking in our study focus to write the upcoming researchs. The values of Bandung Spirit will be valuable and critical, since it emphasizes equality, cooperation, and justice for all countries in all context including in global economic order.
The agenda was fascinating for us. We got insight from both academician and practitionaire related to the topic. We got the view from academician, such as Prof Amitav Acharya, Prof. Mochtar Masoed, Dr. Andrew Phillips, Prof Ramakrishnan, and Mr.Riza Noer Arfani as well as from practitionaire, such as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms.Dewi Fortuna Anwar, Dr.Makarim Wibisono, and the President of Imagine Africa Institute. Besides, we can also get the information about various topic related to Bandung Spirit from the paper presentation. The agenda is sucessful. We hope that the relation between Asian-African countries is getting better. Thus it will create the better condition for those two regions like what is mandatted in Bandung Spirit.
